September 1 – 9, 2007, Bechtel publishing and gymnastics magazine LEON* issue a representative illustrated book, which captures in words and pictures the 40th World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in the history of the International Gymnastics Federation FIG.

“The most beautiful world championships of all times”, FIG president Bruno Grandi said about the world championships in Stuttgart. You can review in words and pictures those great days on the 216 pages of this illustrated book. Its focus is on the 14 competitions of the championships and the success of the German team, the amazing scenery and atmosphere in the Schleyer-Halle and at the Medal Plaza in the city centre. Incredible pictures in A4- and A3-size, exceptional perspectives and astonishing detailed views, which were captured by FIG photographer Volker Minkus, characterize this book. On the one hand, the texts mirror in a short but informative way the events of those world championship days, on the other hand, they open up new views on the world championships in particular and on artistic gymnastics in general. Comprehensive statitics complete the chapters about the world championships.

However, ‘The Beauty of Gymnastics’ is more than just a documentation of the world championships in Stuttgart. The aim of author Andreas Götze, editor-in-chief of the gymnastics magazine LEON*, and his co-publisher Michael Weber was to present a book which also conveys the beauty and the fascination of gymnastics beyond the (world championships) days and which offers amazing insights into the world of gymnastics. Therefore, this illustrated book also includes interesting facts from the history of gymnastics and its world championships, a chapter about the development of the Code of Points, a presentation of famous ‘inventors’ as well as a collection of stamps with gymnastics motifs and much more.

With regard to the extraordinary design of the book, credit is owed to Andreas Aguilar, who became world champion on rings in Stuttgart in 1989.

The publishers will donate a part of the sales revenue to young gymnasts in Germany.
